With increasing grades of emery paper, fill minor imperfections with body filler, and sand back the surface (e.g. start with 200 and continue up to 500) until the surface is smoothed out.
Note that the emery paper number indicates the number of grains per sq. Ft. ft. The paper becomes increasingly smoother when you go up in grade, with a growing number of grains.
4) With brown paper (the kind that comes off a roll) cover the surrounding area-NOT Newsprint and stick this with the proper masking tape.
